
Overview
Along with a foundation in business and management this course equips you in the use of economic techniques to analyse markets, evaluate strategy and forecast business outcomes. You can also choose to explore areas including financial markets, business ethics, game theory and behavioural economics.
First year core modules give you a broad understanding of business principles. Core modules explore economics, marketing, HR, organizational behaviour and finance.
From your second year, the required modules you take determine the degree title you will graduate with.
During your placement year you will also complete a business project. This project is an assessed part of your degree and, depending on the topic you choose, could also provide a valuable piece of insight for your placement employer.
Required modules focus on strategy and management. Option modules give you the freedom to explore a diverse range of topics related both t.ith Economics and Placement Year (Hons) is offered by University of Brighton
Career prospects
Throughout the course you will develop confidence and expertise in analysis, business communication, teamwork, and transferable skills in preparing briefs, plans and reports, presenting, budgeting and evaluation.
Employers are involved throughout the degree programme to ensure we’re helping you to develop the skills they’re looking for. Businesses work with us on guest lectures, placement opportunities and with live project briefs – where students present solutions to a group of employers.

Accreditation
This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute. All students successfully completing a three-year Business Management route, and who have passed the qualifying modules, will have completed the study required for the Chartered Management Institute’s Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership.

Lecturers
Dr Vincent Kane, course leader Vincent is a Senior Lecturer in Economics and the programme leader of our Economics degree.He has experience teaching a wide range of subjects in economics and related areas, including business economics, financial markets, environmental economics and political economy. His research interests centre around oil and gas markets and sustainability.

Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBB–BCC (120–104 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DMM–MMM. Our conditional offers typically fall within this range.
- International Baccalaureate
26 points, with three subjects at Higher level.
- Access to HE Diploma
Pass with 60 credits overall. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at merit.
