Overview
An Earth and Planetary Sciences (Hons) honours degree in the Earth and Planetary Sciences (Hons) programme offered at The University of Manchester is focused on a holistic understanding of Earth systems in order to learn from the past, understand the present and influence the future. As Earth Science is at the cross-roads of the natural sciences, it provides an enriching alternative to a single-subject honours degree, and can open the door to an exciting range of career options.
The MEarthSci offers you the flexibility to tailor your interest in the Earth and Planetary Sciences in one of six areas of specialisation: Geology, Geochemistry, Geology with Physical Geography, Planetary Science, Palaeobiology or Energy and Resources. The degree includes extensive field and practical training, with UK and overseas field courses in every year of study.
Career opportunities
We work closely together with graduate employers to ensure that the training our undergraduates receive during their Earth and Planetary Science degree equips them for getting a great graduate job and excelling in it. Our graduates' jobs include Scientific Research, Finance, Policy, blue-chip Management, Environmental Consultancy and Earth Resources.
Our close links with employers highlight the key skills they desire in our graduates. Key amongst these is an enthusiasm for learning. In the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences we are passionate about our work on climate science, ecosystem conservation, micro-plastic pollution, dinosaur evolution, volcanoes, Earth's formation and the distribution of resources within it. This passion is shared with our students, producing an enthusiasm and capacity for learning which serves them throughout their careers and lives.
