The program of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta is a hub for feminism, social justice studies, and engaged citizenship at the University of Alberta. Our award-winning teachers and researchers offer a wide variety of exciting classes to students from across the University community.

Learning outcomes

Women’s and Gender Studies is a field of study that encourages students to ask big questions about the way that gender impacts how we think, how we live, and how we understand ourselves and others. Though the field historically focused on the lives of women, in the contemporary Women’s and Gender Studies classroom, an emphasis is placed on the ways that gender, race, class, age, sexuality, ability, and size work together.

General requirements

Four subjects from Group A, B and/or C. A maximum of one Group B may be presented for admission. In order to maximize their future program and course choices, all students are encouraged to present a broad range of subjects across Group A and C.

Mathematics 30-2 may be used for admission to the Faculty of Arts, though some disciplines require Mathematics 30-1 as a prerequisite for required courses (see notes below). Only one of Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2 will be used for admission purposes.
