You can be part of Australia’s largest manufacturing industry by studying USQ’s Bachelor of Science (Food Science) and discover the science behind the development of new food products.
- You will also develop an understanding of the effects of food components on human nutrition and health.
- Put your learning into practice in your final year by attending residential schools and doing a work placement within industry.
- USQ is partnering in the national Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre, a $100 million, 10-year initiative uniting industry and research institutions to focus on diverting food waste into other purposes.

- Food and beverage processing is one of the most rapidly growing industries employing a large percentage of Australia's total workforce.
- With input all the way from the farm to the kitchen table, graduates can pursue a range of careers in food science including jobs as a food microbiologist, food technologist, in food product development, as a food chemist, and in quality assurance.

Subject pre-requisite: General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent.
To study this degree we also assume you have sound knowledge in:
- English (Units 3 & 4, C)
We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12).
It is also recommended that you have studied Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C), and one of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics or equivalent. If you do not have the recommended Mathematics B Level for entry then you will be required to undertake MAT1000 Mathematics Fundamentals as an elective.
