About

This Civil Engineering (Hons) course at University of Derby features a compelling mix of lectures, real-life projects and site visits so you can develop all the knowledge and skills that employers are looking for. We will introduce you to key skills relating to structures, fluids, geology, soil mechanics, surveying and materials. 

You will learn through a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, on and off campus laboratory and site work, plus visits to companies.

You will be assessed through workshop laboratories, surveying field work, group work and individual assignments. Some traditional exams may be involved for design tests.

Careers 

As a graduate you will have not only the knowledge and skills to embark on your career but also the academic base for Incorporated Engineer status. 

An Incorporated Civil Engineer is a person with an accredited bachelor degree and professional experience who can maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology, and undertake engineering design, development, manufacture, construction and operation. The qualification is essential to become a practising engineer and to lead a team in a professional organisation.

Typical entry requirements:

  • UCAS points - 112 (up to 16 from AS-levels)
  • Specific requirements at A-level - At least a C in either Maths, Physics, Science or another related subject at A-level (or equivalent qualification)
  • Specific requirements at GCSE - GCSE Maths and English Grade C/Grade 4 (or above) or equivalent qualification

  • We have a range of scholarships and discounts available to students from outside the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA).
  • We award scholarships based on your application to study; there is no separate form to complete. All applications from eligible students will be considered for a scholarship by our international admissions team. We will notify you of your scholarship when we make you an offer, and apply your discount to your remaining fees.
  • You must be applying for a full-time degree and applications for postgraduate research, online studies, foundation and pre-sessional language programmes are not eligible for a discount or scholarship.
