Overview
The Children and Young People’s Nursing (Hons) programme from University of Northampton is structured to provide you with a strong foundation in Children and Young People’s Nursing and equips you with effective practical skills with a blended approach to learning. Course Details
This programme gives you the ability to cope with a demanding and satisfying profession, leading to Children and Young People’s Nursing (Hons) and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Throughout your studies and during practice you are a supported by a Nursing Academic during your placement. The University is part of a well-established, professional European network for Nursing and Midwifery. The Florence Network offers opportunities for future health careers and development to staff, academics and students.
Taught elements will include:
- Discovering your Identify as Children and Young Peoples Nursing.
- Medication management.
- Transforming and leading in Children Services.
- Detailed anatomy and physiological of the child and young person.
- An understanding of Mental Health in Children and Young People.
- Assessing, planning and providing nursing care.
Career Opportunities
- You can work in general paediatrics to consolidate your knowledge.
- You can work in specialised areas such Neonates, Paediatric Emergency Departments or a children's hospital.
- You may wish to work in Health, School Nursing or Children's Community services.

General requirements
- Applicants must be 18 years old by the 2nd month of commencing pre-registration nursing programmes and must have 10 years of consecutive education.
- English Language and Maths GCSE, or the equivalent, at grade C/4 or above, achieved prior to commencement of the course. (Equivalents: Functional skills level 2 and 3, Key skills level 2 and 3, Adult Literacy/Numeracy Level 2).
- Evidence of recent academic study completed within the last five years.
- If your first language is not English, you need to provide evidence of an IELTS score of 7.0 (in all bands).
- BCC at A level
- BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma or
- National Diploma at DMM
- A kitemarked Access to Higher Education course with 30 credits at Merit or above
- Successful completion of the first year of a relevant Foundation Degree
- Health and Social Care Diploma at Level 3 (advanced level)
- CACHE Diploma achieved at grade B or above.
