Overview
The Computing Science programme at Saint Mary's University provides students with a deep understanding of the algorithms and systems that drive modern information processing. By exploring both foundational principles and practical applications, the curriculum ensures that graduates are equipped to solve complex problems across various scientific and commercial fields. Students engage with diverse computing platforms and programming languages to build a versatile technical toolkit.
Why Computing Science at Saint Mary's University?
This nationally-accredited programme is distinguished by its small class sizes, averaging 60 students in first-year courses and decreasing to between ten and 20 in upper-year modules. This intimate environment fosters strong connections between students and faculty, creating a supportive atmosphere for academic growth. The university encourages students to enhance their education through co-op placements, international study abroad opportunities, and undergraduate research projects.
Beyond standard classroom learning, students frequently participate in regional hackathons, gaining hands-on experience that is highly regarded by employers and graduate schools. The Saint Mary's University approach focuses on teaching the core principles of computing systems rather than just current languages, ensuring graduates can adapt to new technologies throughout their careers. Students also have the flexibility to pursue double majors with mathematics or other science disciplines.
