University of Porto About

Welcome to the University of Porto , one of the 150 best universities in Euro... Okay, you must already know that at this time. What you probably do not know is all there is to discover in a beautiful Country with such unique history, in a City that is a top European tourist destination.

History

The University of Porto was formally created on 22 March 1911, as a result of the newly implanted republican system. However, it stems, since the 18th century, from many combined experiences of training in Science, Arts and Medicine, which would lead to the future University.

Education

By having the most complete offer in learning programmes available for Higher Education in Portugal, the U.Porto’s 15 schools provide unique conditions to pursue an outstanding academic record which will be valued in the job market. All of this takes place in a multicultural learning environment committed to the highest standards of excellence and quality.

The courses at the U.Porto are remarkably diverse: over 600 training programmes (graduate, postgraduate and lifelong) guarantee solutions for all types of students starting from 1st cycle undergraduates up to Masters degree and Doctoral degree students.

Research

Just like the world's best universities, the University of Porto combines teaching with top scientific research. Indeed, it is the umbilical relationship between these two dimensions – between learning and creating knowledge – that justifies the classification of the University of Porto as a Research University.

Career

Attending a course at the University of Porto grants the student a privileged position in the job market. Two of the main reasons which contribute to this privileged position are the excellence of the training, highly recognised in both national and international job markets, and the extended services to support professional integration that is provided by the University.

Housing services

Consisting of three main sites known as Polos spreading out all over the city of Porto (Polo I – downtown; Polo II Asprela (northern Porto); Polo III Campo Alegre (western bank, river Douro) and a fourth site outside the city, in Vairão, our University includes 15 schools (14 faculties and a business school). It is a uniquely rich and wide centre for Higher Education in Portugal.

Library services

Whenever in need of a piece of information to complete research or enrich a scientific project, all members of the academic community are likely to find it in the vast network of libraries distributed throughout the University.

Covering all fields of knowledge taught in the institution, the 30 libraries of the University of Porto occupy an area of over 20,000 m2 and include 800,000 titles.

Medical services

Porto’ s two largest hospitals are Hospital Geral de S. João and Hospital Geral de Santo António. Both have 24-hour A&E services. There are also numerous public and private clinics and health services available in the city, some of which are also open 24 hours.

Campus life

The U.Porto is currently expanding and modernising its infrastructures with a view to increasing the quality and quantity of equipment in general. This renewal process includes schools, research centres, libraries, auditoriums, museums, halls of residence, sports venues and social venues, as well as other equipment that respond to the specific demands of the academic community.

Sports facilities

The U.Porto grounds include two stadiums, a recent pavilion and other dully equipped infrastructures for the practice of multiple sports. Aside the multiple equipment available at the Boa Hora Sports Centre (Polo I), at the Faculty of Sport and at the recently inaugurated Luís Falcão Pavillion (Polo II), the U.Porto has also, since 2013, been using the historical University Stadium of Porto. The practice of sports is thus possible in all three sites of the University.

Student clubs

The U.Porto grounds include other structures and organisms, either directly or indirectly linked to University life, which are connected to teaching, research, theatre, music and business incubation. Please see below for some examples.

Accreditation

Since 2015, WU has held triple accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, the 3 most prestigious accreditation agencies for business and economics universities.

Great people and great learning experience

During my PhD, I spent three months at the Biotechnology School, and my experience was excellent. Thanks to the efforts of my colleagues in the research group, I learned a lot, and their kindness also made my stay wonderful.

Facilities

My experience at Universidade Catlica Portuguesa Porto was very positive. The facilities are modern, well-maintained, and well equipped, providing a comfortable and efficient environment for research and academic work. Laboratory infrastructure and technical resources were readily available, which greatly supported day-to-day activities. In addition, the people were extremely welcoming and supportive. Both academic staff and colleagues were approachable, professional, and always willing to help, creating a friendly and collaborative atmosphere. Overall, it was a pleasant and productive place to work and learn.

Experience as an international student

The Catholic University of Portugal it's known for being an a really well-known international and the courses here are really nice the teachers they're really helpful their office hours they give you feedback on the test and everything. I think that's something that sometimes universities forget to do because it's like the volume of students, but I really like that the teachers like they can personally like help you out as well. Being an international student I feel like a lot of the volunteering opportunities and internships as well they are centered around Portuguese students considering that they're like in Portuguese so I think that maybe the university could work on that. even the career the career day mostly the companies are Portuguese speaking and I feel like some integration of like international opportunities would be great step. international life at Catolica (ILAC) it really helped reach that gap I think they held like a lot of different event events integration and stuff for international students I met a lot of people from different countries and it's a really nice community and I think that if we can further build international life at Catholic this university could do even better with their international group of students Erasmus or international students who are doing their whole degrees opportunities would be great international life at Carolica (ILAC) it really helped bridge that gap. They held a lot of different events for integration for international students and I met a lot of people from different countries and it's a really nice community and I think that if we can further build international life at Catolica (ILAC) this university could do even better with their international group of students- Erasmus or just international students are doing their whole degrees.
