The School of Anthropology and Conservation at Kent was founded in 1997. It presently ranks sixth in The Guardian rating of the UK’s Anthropology departments, and is unique in recognizing the importance of the fundamental link between human society, human evolution, and the natural environment (through the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology)

The School of Anthropology and Conservation is home to a diverse range of interesting and stimulating undergraduate programmes. Whether you want to discover links between human's and primates, learn about other cultures and languages or preserve our natural environment - we have a programme to suit you.

Our postgraduate programmes cover a broad range of topics in social and biological anthropology, ethnobiology, and biodiversity conservation. You will discover the extent of our international reach, the quality and reputation of our research, and the outstanding facilities we are able to offer.

The school administers research activity through Thematic Areas. These groups aim to cultivate a dynamic research culture which increases the reach of our expertise, releases staff to conduct fieldwork, encourages collaboration, supports grant funding applications and provides training and support for new researchers:

Our graduates have been very successful in securing work and further education. 89% of the 2009/10 cohort were in jobs or further study 6 months after graduation. 70% of our students who have proceeded into work have secured Graduate level jobs.
