History
Founded in 1622, the university has around 18,000 students and 2,800 employees and is largest educational institution in the Land Salzburg.
Education
Since our re-establishment in 1962, the University has developed into a modern and lively institution whose four Faculties -Theology, Law, Cultural and Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences - meet the highest standards of teaching and research. Partly located in the Old City Centre and partly in the modern campus near the Salzach River, the University plays a major role in both the cultural and business lives of Salzburg.
Research
The University of Salzburg continuously produces excellent results in both basic and applied research, documented by the growing number of publications and third-party funded projects. The university’s different departments, research clusters, centres and Christian Doppler laboratories work on a multitude of research projects, many of them with an interdisciplinary approach. For the benefit of both students and young scientists, our university is guided by the principles of research-oriented teaching.
Career
The University of Salzburg is one of the largest employers in the region offering a wide range of job opportunities: apprentice, librarian, secretary, student assistant, professor, etc. Currently, approximately 2,800 people are employed by the University of Salzburg. Because the staff is the most important resource of a knowledge organization, the University particularly emphasizes the areas of inclusion, the advancement of women, and the promotion of a healthy workplace.
