History
Vel Tech was established in 1997 by Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan as an engineering college affiliated to the University of Madras , with courses in computer science & engineering, electronics & communication engineering and electrical & electronics engineering. From 2001 the college was affiliated to Anna University.
Education
Academic programmes are offered in engineering, management, media technology and law. The academic curriculum of the institution facilitates collaborative learning with research projects and taught by committed faculty members, leading experts from industries/organizations and international visiting faculty.
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) gives student's flexibility to choose the course of their choice and learn at their own pace. CDIO methodology is also practiced in the curriculum, an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of Engineers. The Institution is the first member from India to implement and practice CDIO methodology.
Research
Vel Tech is known as the top-notch Institution for its Internationally renowned quality in Multidisciplinary Research. The intersection of disciplines is emphasized, as new ideas emerge and impulse innovative research. There are ample opportunities for students/ scholars/ faculty to hone their research skills during their research work at the Institution. More than 30+ independent labs are facilitated to engage faculty and students’ in research work.
Career
We aim to bring out the hidden and subtle talents of the students. To explore the right career path, various interactive sessions with the professionals from various organizations have been organized for the students. This helps students to understand the actual demand and expectations from companies’ in the job market. Experts from Capgemini, IIIT Hyderabad, MAITRI Technology solutions, VENUS Geo, HICO, Jingsung etc. joined hands with Veltech to provide insights to the students in the form of workshops and seminars.

Student services
The office of DCC builds Industry partnerships through regular interactions with the Industry. The excellent infrastructure of the campus facilitates the Campus Hiring processes like Pre-Placement Talks (PPT), Written Tests, Group Discussions (GD) and Interviews, to meet the demand of the organizations.
The various facilities of the campus includes:
- Multiple auditoriums with 5000, 1000, 500 and 100 seating capacities to conduct PPT by the corporate.
- Computer labs to conduct online assessment for 1000 students per batch.
- Multiple GD halls for conducting group discussions/assessments.
- Interview halls of 25 numbers enabled with Wi-Fi/LAN connectivity.
Housing services
Vel Tech Campus is a multi-linguistic community, fostering skills and talents of young student engineers. The management takes every effort to ensure that all students at the Institution have an experience of holistic growth in an active fun-filled and resourceful ambiance to explore and learn.
Library services
The Central Library of Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R & D Institute of Science and Technology consists of enormous printed books, journals, magazines, back volumes and e-resources in the field of Science, Engineering, Technology, Law, Management and Humanities. The Central Library consists of a massive collection of 105517 volumes of books and 27341 titles
Medical services
- Vel Tech owns a 100 bedded medical facility with dedicated doctors functioning 24 x 7 with paramedical support services.
- All the hostels are facilitated with First Aid centers
- Exclusive gymnasium with qualified physical education masters is facilitated in every hostel.

- Reverse Osmosis(RO) Water treatment plant.
- Yoga center.
- Physiotherapy Centre.
