School of Visual Arts

School of Visual Arts has been a leader in the education of artists, designers and creative professionals for seven decades. With a faculty of distinguished working professionals, a dynamic curriculum and an emphasis on critical thinking, SVA is a catalyst for innovation and social responsibility. Comprising 6,000 students at its Manhattan campus and 38,000 alumni in 75 countries, SVA also represents one of the most influential artistic communities in the world.

About

History

Silas H. Rhodes and illustrator (Tarzan) Burne Hogarth co-found the Cartoonists and Illustrators School, with New York City-based professionals working in the arts as faculty, a practice that continues to this day.

Student services

 Student Affairs promotes student involvement within the College and beyond, offering support resources and programs designed to enhance the co-curricular college environment throughout the academic year. 

Housing services

Students living on campus join a unique community of artists in a safe, diverse, and supportive living environment.  From residence hall social and educational programs for students, to floor meetings, and First-Year Residential experience (F.Y.R.E.) program, the SVA residence halls look to foster connections and communities that students take with them beyond their student housing experience.

Accreditation

The School of Visual Arts (SVA) been authorized by the New York State Board of Regents to confer the degrees of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Master of Professional Studies (MPS). The BFA Interior Design program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation; the MAT Art Education program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation; and the MPS Art Therapy program is approved by the American Art Therapy Association, Inc..
