The historical development of the College started in January 1981 when it enrolled its first class of students. In this same year, the College opened its Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic, which provides affordable care using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to the people of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
ACTCM offers master’s and doctoral degrees in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine as well as public programs and continuing education courses through CIIS.
Our students, alumni, and faculty are deeply engaged in the acupuncture community and are leaders at the forefront of integrative care, research, public health, and holistic wellness.

The Student Council provides a ready forum for students to give input on a wide range of issues, and to interact with faculty and administration in ways that help shape the learning experience. The Student Council is an invaluable resource to ACTCM, and is often a catalyst for creating new opportunities for students. Annual elections are held to fill Student Council positions.
CIIS Laurance S. Rockefeller Library collections include approximately 125,000 print and electronic books; about 200 print journal subscriptions and access to over 8,000 online journals; 600 audiotapes and CDs and a growing video collection (including a special psychotherapy video collection).
At each of our campuses students will find computers for use and wifi.
As healthcare providers, it is very important that our students take care of their own health first. ACTCM offers a variety of health and wellness resources. Students receive discounted treatments and services at our clinics, including acupuncture, herbs and massage. Qigong classes and workshops are also held regularly and are open to both students and the public.

ACTCM’s campuses are located on San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood and at the Main campus for CIIS on Mission Street. Potrero Hill is close to downtown and a picturesque part of the city that is easy to commute to. San Francisco is a dynamic city that is a cultural, culinary, and financial center with a diverse population. Students enjoy great concerts, nightlife, beaches, nearby forests, and great weather!

I really liked the hands-on lab sessions and how approachable the lecturers were. The workload could be improved by spacing out major deadlines better. over all, it was a challenging experience that built my problem solving skills
