California College of the Arts (CCA) is an art, design, architecture, and writing school founded in 1907. It has campuses in San Francisco and Oakland, and it enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduates and 500 graduate students.

California College of the Arts was founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer to provide an education for artists and designers that would integrate both theory and practice in the arts. Meyer’s vision continues to the present day.


California College of the Arts offers 22 undergraduate and 12 graduate degree programs, balancing innovation with tradition and integrating theory with practice. Additionally, the college offers public adult and youth programs that are specifically geared toward professional and academic advancement.


Through a focus on advanced digital technologies and material systems, design research and urban agency, CCA strives to develop the next generation of designers who will shape our future built environments.

Through four primary areas of research expertise, the CCA Digital Craft Lab (DCL) supports and promotes advanced research in architectural design, digital fabrication, material science, data visualization, and robotics.

  • The Division of Student Affairs foster stransformative co-curricular learning and support students as they navigate challenges and transitions.
  • Access and Wellness Services oversees all services for students with disabilities, provides leadership for overall wellness awareness, and manages the student health insurance program.

    As students push the boundaries of their art, a variety of student life resources and programs support and nurture their success at California College of the Arts.Among CCA’s student life resources is a range of information from artistic opportunities and events to off-campus housing opportunities to important registration dates to exhibition forms, among other valuable call-outs for optimizing the student life experience at CCA.

    The library's  collections include a wide variety of physical and digital objects. Research guides curate resources by discipline and topic.

    Medical services

    California College of the Arts recognizes mental health and wellness is as equally important as physical health and wellness.

    This section offers students information about access to mental-health services, including those offered through the college as well as those outside CCA's purview.

    With input from alumni, faculty, staff, and trustees, the college has partnered with Equity Community Builders/Emerald Fund to identify a range of options that celebrate CCA’s legacy and truly benefit the community. Options could include partnerships with mission-aligned organizations -- coupled with alternative uses such as housing -- and other uses that honor the arts and historic aspects of the Oakland CCA campus.

    CCA is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), formerly FIDER.

    I learned a lot and grew a lot as an artist and a person because of CCA. I loved the intensity if the course and how much it pushed me. I didnt quite prefer some of the courses as they seemed kind of immature or basic at some level.
