About

History

Roanoke College is an independent, co-educational, 4-year liberal arts college. Founded in 1842, we are the second-oldest Lutheran-related college in America. We seek and welcome students of all races, creeds, nationalities and ethnic origins.

Education

Working closely with you, we help you chart your path through college. We push you to challenge assumptions about the world and your role in it, building confidence and a strong sense of personal authority. Through experiences in and outside the classroom, you acquire the knowledge and skills you'll need to make a real contribution.

Giving you the tools to create and live your own plan is what distinguishes a Roanoke education.

Research

When you think about research and independent inquiry opportunities at Roanoke College, think of yourself as an explorer. Because what you will do here is explore: from the deep mysteries of the genome to the marginalized heroines of Jane Austen; from unmarked graves in Salem to uncharted gun control laws in Richmond; from analyzing shoulder fatigue in young baseball pitchers to creating a virtual web site for old Pompeii. Your options to explore, from your first year onward, will be limited only by your interests and imagination.  Research at Roanoke College includes scholarship in all areas from the arts and humanities to the social sciences and sciences.

Career

The Office of Career Services maintains a library of print resources, a variety of handouts, and other information on career fields related to Roanoke College majors and others.

Its impressive collection of books, journals, media and archival resources, access to myriad electronic resources, and contemporary facilities create the perfect environment for you to read, study, explore, develop ideas, gather data and conduct research.

ICT services

Security of the campus network is the primary concern of the Wi-Fi infrastructure. Roanoke College uses the Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) standard to ensure all data transferred is secure from your computer to our servers. In addition, the network also requires authentication with a Roanoke College username and password, preventing outsiders from accessing the college network.

Our experienced staff members provide quality, confidential and compassionate health care to the students of Roanoke College. Roanoke College Student Health & Counseling Services is nurse-directed, operating under the direct medical supervision of a local doctor. Our team is skilled in the assessment and treatment of health issues of college students.

Student Life

Campus life

At Roanoke, we believe some of your best learning opportunities occur outside the classroom.  It begins your first of week freshman year, where we'll encourage you to meet and make friends with people from many different backgrounds and learn how to work effectively through life's issues together.

From the start, we'll encourage you to join many different clubs and organizations, where you'll have a chance to take leadership roles, learning to motivate teams, organize events, and achieve your goals.

During your four years here you'll find many exciting things to do that will open your mind to new possibilities, and might even lead you to the passion you've been seeking.
