About

History

Since 1885, we at Springfield College have had a singular focus on educating students—in spirit, mind, and body—for leadership in service to others.  We call it our Humanics philosophy.  The world has changed since 1885, and we have, too. New academic programs, renovations, construction, and other major developments have ensured that we remain relevant to today’s students and society.

Education

Humanics is our unique philosophy that calls for the education of students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others. That means that we focus on helping students grow the whole person so they can serve as leaders in their communities, organizations, companies, or wherever their next steps take them.

Student Life

Campus life

Springfield College has a vibrant campus life and students are provided with ample opportunity to explore their professional and personal interests. Our traditional New England campus, situated on the shores of Lake Massasoit, is like an oasis in a city. In addition to academic, there are recreational facilities and special interest clubs and organizations, all within an hour and a half drive to Boston, Albany, or Providence.

Sports facilities

  • The James Naismith Court, located in Blake Arena, was named in honor of the founder of basketball, alumnus, and instructor, James Naismith, who created the game while at Springfield College. The refurbished court provides a top-notch athletic facility for games and other events.
  • The athletic training and exercise science facilities provide students and faculty with interactive and experiential learning environments, as well as dedicated research space for the study of all aspects of wellness and human performance. The athletic training room offers student-athletes access to athletic health care at the highest level.

Student clubs

There are so many ways to get involved, whether it's through one of our clubs, organizations, governing bodies, or teams. If you can’t find a club in your interest area, start one yourself.
