Pomona College was incorporated on October 14, 1887, by a group of Congregationalists who wanted to recreate “a college of the New England type” on the West Coast. Instruction began the next year in a small, rented house in the city of Pomona.

We offer a comprehensive curriculum, with 48 majors in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

One of the premier liberal arts colleges in the nation, Pomona is a close-knit and diverse community of accomplished scholars, scientists, entrepreneurs and artists who are passionate about making a difference in the world.

53 percent of students conduct research with faculty, with more than 200 students participating in research each summer.

Student Life

Campus life

Ninety-four percent of our students live on campus all four years, and many professors live within five miles of campus. This creates a close-knit community where new collaborations or eye-opening discussions can spring up anywhere – a dorm, club meeting, or at lunch with a professor.

Pomona will be your home for four years – that’s four years of forging connections, making lifelong friends, and learning and discovering new passions.

Sports facilities

The new Center for Athletics, Recreation and Wellness will be a celebration of fitness and wellness that will offer a striking physical presence for Sagehen Athletics and recreation activities. Some of the new features of the building will include:

  • Upgraded Memorial Gym, moved to the second floor and facing the San Gabriel Mountains
  • New, larger recreational fitness area with more space for cardio workouts and large and inviting windows
  • Dedicated strength and conditioning center with new equipment
  • Doubled space for fitness classes
  • Upgraded back terrace overlooking the athletic fields
  • New and larger facilities for sports medicine and team meetings

  • Model UN.
  • Peer Mentoring Groups.
  • FLI Scholars at Pomona.
  • The Women's Union.

I loved that we had small classes so we always had access to our professors.
