History

The history of Yonsei University began on April 10th, 1885, as Korea’s first modern hospital "Gwanghyewon." Two weeks after opening, King Kojong gave Gwanghyewon a new name - "Chejungwon." Gwanghyewon was established by a medical missionary, Horace N. Allen. Prior to opening, missionary Horace G. Underwood visited Korea, assisting in medical treatment at Chejungwon.

Student services

Hello to all of Underwood International Students! We, the 12th Student Council SOLIDITY, genuinely welcome you to be part of the UIC family. Housing services

As Yonsei freshman, UIC students will reside in the newly-built Yonsei International Campus (YIC) in Songdo, Incheon. The Residential College (RC) system provides community-based academic and social activities including arts, sports, and community services beyond the classroom. The first in the nation to adopt the RC system for all incoming freshman students in 2013, YIC serves as the benchmark for other leading universities in Korea.

Medical services

Students must submit the following items to Yonsei Mutual-aid Association: 

First, the original copy of the medical treatment receipt (faxed and copied receipts will not be accepted) which includes the date of treatment and the department. 

Second, Yonsei University Student ID Card or Statement of Enrollment. 

Third, Woori Bank account number (copy of the bankbook is not necessary).

Campus life

  • 2 Campuses: Sinchon, Seoul Campus and Songdo, International Campus
  • First year residential college program for all incoming freshman
Yonsei University serves as the "alma mater" (Fostering mother) of all arts and sciences to nurture leaders who will contribute to society in and abroad, ecumenical spirit of Christian teaching epitomized in its motto of “truth and freedom.” Yonseians will inherit mankind’s cultural legacy, and lead academic development by creativity and critical ability.
