Annecy University Institute of Technology was created in 1973, and has since then developed into a major center for education, research and international opportunities. Since its creation, Annecy UIT has allowed students to acquire genuine technical skills, to learn how to be flexible and work in teams on hands-on projects. It boasts recent buildings and modern equipment.
Annecy University Institute of Technology offers a variety of Bachelor’s Degrees in the fields of computing, engineering, business and sports. Five of them are completely English-taught: one in industrial and business management, one in electrical engineering, and three in the fields of sports and business. They are all tailored to meet the needs of the international markets, and we have relied on local industries as well as on our attractive natural environment to create our programmes in sports and business. Our staff includes researchers, professors and people working in regional companies.
Our campus includes four laboratories which focus on scientific research, either physics (applied, particle, astroparticles, Measurements at colliders and reactors…), mechatronics, or computer science. These laboratories with in collaboration with many foreign universities and organizations such as CERN, and welcome our students as well as foreign students and professors on a regular basis.
Our students can get a bachelor’s Degree, pursue their studies in engineering schools, business schools, at university to do a Master’s Degree and a PhD, or in one of the numerous universities abroad which we have an agreement with. They easily find an internship and then a job in French companies, in neighboring Switzerland or abroad.
Our Faculty Student Office deals with administrative aspects of your courses, including those relating to enrolment and module registration, coursework, assessments and exams. Each department has a Blackboard site that you will need to visit on a daily basis for important announcements and reminders, such as module registration deadlines, work submission deadlines and timetables.The International Relations Office is here particularly and three people are dedicated to helping foreign students with paperwork, questions and requirements. For each training course there is also a teacher in charge of tutoring and helping out foreign students.
You must apply for accommodation around campus in a university residence. You may have a studio or share an apartment with other students. You may be allowed a grant to reduce the rental price. Attribution depends on the characteristics of your accommodation and on your personal situation.All accommodation is either easily accessible by bus or within walking distance of campus.
The library is a stone’s throw from the buildings and open from Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 19:00pm, including during the holidays. You can borrow up to 10 books, e-books, and DVDs, CDs and magazines, and many books in English or other languages are accessible.
There is an IT department on campus that can provide help to anyone who needs it. Free wi-fi is available everywhere and some computer rooms are open all day long to allow students to work as they need.
There is a medical service available on campus. Medical fees are partly refunded by the social security. If you are a member of the European Economic Area, you have to apply for your European Card of Health insurance (gratis) from your affiliated national health insurance provider before coming. If not, you will have to become affiliated to the French students social security.
All the buildings are situated on one campus, and student accommodation are within walking distance of campus (some are a little further but readily accessible by bus). There are a supermarket and a post office nearby, and Annecy is only 15 minutes away by bus (there are student discounts for public transportation). There is a cafeteria on campus that sells hot and cold meals for a very reasonable price. Sports facilities are situated within walking distance.
You can enroll each semester to do one of the many sports accessible: athletics, rowing, badminton, basketball, climbing, handball, football or futsal to name just a few. A gym is also freely accessible freely.The whole region in itself is conducive to outdoor sports, whether it be hiking, skiing, swimming or sailing, running, cycling… There are many mountains around Annecy (Semnoz, Veyrier, Baron, la Tournette…), ski resorts (Grand Bornand, La Clusaz, Avoriaz, Val Thorens…) and lake Annecy is only some 15 minutes away from campus.
There is one student association per department as well as a general association for the whole campus. They all organize events to welcome and integrate new students and popular events all along the year, such as a gala in March, a ski outing in February, and others. There are also activities organized by students who are enrolled in the sports study and music study programmes (concerts, games, outings…)
