Overview
Space Engineering at York University combines systems engineering with hands-on mission work, guiding students from initial concept design through hardware and software development to testing and in-orbit operations. Students explore orbit control, space-based optics, ground station communications and robotics while practising multidisciplinary project design and management. Learning is rooted in real mission examples and an applied, systems-focused approach.
Why Space Engineering at York University?
Delivered by the Lassonde School of Engineering on Keele Campus, the Space Engineering programme is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). That accreditation supports routes to professional engineering licensure for graduates who meet registration requirements.
A strong focus on experiential education is central to the degree. After second year, students may enter the co-op stream to gain placements within space agencies and related organisations, applying classroom projects to operational contexts.

Careers with Space Engineering
Teaching is project-centred: students progress from mission concept through detailed payload and subsystem design to manufacturing, verification and operations planning. Instruction blends classroom theory with laboratory tasks and mission-led assignments.
The degree is offered as a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and is delivered on York's Keele Campus within the Lassonde School of Engineering. You can study full-time or part-time and engage in experiential placements through co-op or internship options; fall and winter entry points are listed on the programme page.
Practical co-op placements after second year place students with space agencies and firms involved in complex systems design. Those placements are intended to strengthen professional skills and provide a pathway towards engineering registration for graduates pursuing licensure. Admission details are available on the programme page.
