Overview
Analytical Science offered at Dublin City University is designed to give you a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, mathematics, and physics, while building your practical skills in the lab from day one. As you progress, you’ll have the chance to shape your studies around your interests, focusing on analytical science and choosing to specialise in either chemical or biological analysis in your final years. It’s your pathway to becoming a confident and capable analytical scientist.
Key Facts
In Year 3, you’ll take part in DCU’s acclaimed INTRA work placement, applying your knowledge in a real professional environment. Our dedicated placement team supports students in securing roles with leading industry partners, research centres and government agencies. Previous students have completed placements with organisations such as Pfizer and Eli Lilly. If a placement isn’t secured, you’ll complete an alternative module featuring industry field trips, workshops and applied learning experiences - ensuring every student gains meaningful exposure to analytical science in action.
As a graduate, you’ll be highly sought after across sectors including biopharmaceuticals, public health, environmental monitoring, cosmetics, manufacturing, brewing, government laboratories and education. Typical roles include process development, validation, quality control, forensic analysis, hospital laboratory work, and research and development. Many graduates also progress to postgraduate study or teacher education.
