Overview
We’ve packed our programme with valuable experiences to add to your portfolio, such as the opportunity to take part in a competition in your second year, with the winners attending the EMCup in Maastrich to compete against hospitality students from 40 European universities.
Our industry partners regularly give talks, either in person or digitally, and regularly look for students to work with them at events or on placement. Previous students have shadowed the event coordinator for a 600-person ball at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel and worked with the HR team at Hotel Gotham. The only limit is how much time you can spare!
We make sure you get a good mix of classroom work and practical sessions. One day you might be learning about operations in a lecture, the next you might be on a tour of a kitchen with the head chef. There are plenty of opportunities to learn practical skills, take our food product development lab, for example. Here you’ll learn all about menus, food waste and sustainability, and the cost implications of homegrown vs bought-in products.
Since this International Hospitality Business Management (Hons) course from Manchester Metropolitan University has an international focus, you can study a language as one of your option units throughout each year with us. You’ll also be able to choose from other options in hospitality and tourism to help you personalise the course around your own interests and career goals.
Career
A degree in hospitality can lead to a number of graduate schemes and management careers. International hotels are one obvious destination for many hospitality students, and with restaurants, spas, and golf courses there’s lots of variety in a hotel career. But throughout the course you’ll also learn about the range of options in the wider sector. You could think about roles in:
- Hotels
- Contract catering
- Bars, restaurants and entertainment venues
- Events and corporate hospitality
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
