Sport is part of Manchester’s DNA. It’s a big feature of the city’s history, character and economy. And it’s a big part of Manchester Met too. We created one of the first sports marketing degree in the country and we’ve worked with experts in the industry to make it as useful as possible for your career.
The Sports Marketing Management (Hons) programme from Manchester Metropolitan University prepares you for real life in the industry. So, you’ll complete practical projects like developing a sponsorship proposal, creating a digital marketing campaign or putting together a business plan for a new sports enterprise. To add even more to your CV, you can spend a year on placement with an employer, or go abroad to study at one of our partner universities.
We provide plenty of opportunities for you to learn from experts in the industry. We organise guest lectures and help you volunteer at sports organisations and events. We have links with the likes of Manchester City Football Group, GB Taekwondo and British Cycling.
In the sports industry, the performance of the business behind the scenes is as important as the performance on the pitch. Revenues are generated from a broad range of activities from fan engagement and clothing to merchandise and sponsorship sales. This offers a wide range of career opportunities for graduates with branding, strategic management and marketing expertise specific to the world of sport.
Health and fitness initiatives continue to be driven by government investment and commercial sponsorship. They have never been more important in ensuring that the health and wellbeing of our communities takes centre stage, with initiatives being driven increasingly by digital technology.
You could work at national agencies, governing bodies, health clubs and sports complexes, promoters, or media companies. There are also exciting careers in medicine, education, and research. Or you might choose to continue your studies with our MSc Sport Business, Management and Policy.
