Audiology is the study of the ear, hearing and balance, and Healthcare Science is the use of scientific methods to test and treat people who have health conditions. Healthcare scientists in Audiology work in hospitals and health clinics, assessing people’s hearing and balance, and managing conditions such as hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders. Audiologists deal with people from all walks of life and all ages, from newborn babies to elderly people, so enjoying interaction with people and having excellent communication skills are essential for the role.
On this course you will study healthcare science, audiology, clinical practice and research methods. You will undertake work-based learning in clinical placements where you can put your knowledge and skills into practice.
This Healthcare Science (Audiology) (Hons) from Aston University is part of the NHS Practitioner Training Programme in Neurosensory Sciences. It is a 3-year programme, with integrated placements in each year in clinical practice. Once qualified you may work in the NHS as a Healthcare Scientist or Audiologist, or you may practice as a Hearing Aid Dispenser in the commercial sector.
Audiology courses at Aston teach the skills needed to become audiologists able to work in the NHS and independent sectors.
