In this the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from the University of Southern Queensland you’ll learn the fundamental skills of design, innovation and systems improvement, and gain experience working with USQ’s Heat Engines and High Speed Gas Dynamics laboratories.

In your first year, you’ll explore all areas of the engineering field to allow you to take charge of your own career. After you graduate, your professional skills will allow you to work with some of Australia’s biggest corporations as a Professional Engineer in the automotive, aeronautical, industrial, domestic, or transportation industries in modern mechanical technology, systems or specialist sales.

Apply your knowledge through practical work experience and an exciting final year research project. Previous students have produced projects in the fields of the redesign of an FSAE race car, the use of the vibration signature in structural health monitoring, Microalgae as alternative fuel for Compression Ignition Engines and modification of agricultural equipment and obstacle detecting robotics.

Program aims

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) provides students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to commence practice as a professional engineer; be eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia (as a Professional Engineer) and other appropriate professional bodies; and to undertake further advanced level studies in engineering. 

Specifically the program provides students with a core of basic generic and technical skills, common to all branches of engineering, ,and then permits students to undertake an in depth study of either agricultural, civil, computer systems, electrical and electronic, environmental, instrumentation control and automation, mechanical, mechatronic or power engineering. In addition, students are equipped with a knowledge of the industrial and social environments in which they will function as professional engineers. The program also seeks to instil in students a capacity to communicate effectively and adapt to change.
