What will you study?
Our course combines theory with practice at all levels and explores the connections between language and media work.
In your first year you will look at media in a range of contexts, studying the role of media in contemporary society and exploring the relationship between media, culture and power. You will also develop key skills in media analysis, which will support your progression through the course, and look at practical media production processes across a range of platforms.
In your second year you will explore language and linguistics in more detail and develop research techniques in preparation for your final year independent project. You will have the option to develop your media production skills further or explore communication techniques in a range of professional situations, including presentations, announcements, interviews and press releases.
In you final year of study you will look at the creation of meaning, particularly in terms of contemporary media. You will also work on your independent project and choose from optional modules, allowing you to specialise and focus more on your own particular media interests.
What will you gain?
Alongside the development of your language skills and understanding of media, you will be involved in hands-on individual and group project work, helping you learn how to work effectively independently and within a team.
