Overview

The Sport and Exercise Sciences (Hons) programme of the University of Sunderland is the broadest of our suite of sports courses. You’ll build practical skills in areas like psychology, physiology, anatomy and biomechanics, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, nutrition, and injury rehabilitation. You’ll learn how to combine these disciplines to improve performance in sport and exercise, supported every step of the way by our experienced teaching team.

Career options

They have strong links with regional and national organisations including Sunderland Association Football Club, Durham County Cricket Club, DMP Sharks Women’s Rugby Club, local hospitals, and health and fitness centres – giving you valuable, real-world experience. In your final year, you’ll work directly with athletes and sports teams during an assessment placement to apply your knowledge in practice.

The course also sets you up for supervised experience – the first step to becoming a professionally recognised sport and exercise scientist, accredited through The Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES)(opens in new tab).

General requirements

The typical offer is 96-112 UCAS Tariff points, from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A Levels, T Levels, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate. One T Level must be in health/healthcare science/science.
You also need three passes at GCSE grade C or above. This must include maths and English language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. If you've studied for a GCSE that has a numerical grade, you'll need to achieve a grade 4 or above.
