Overview

The Psychology with Counselling (Hons) programme of the University of Sunderland allows you to consider 'big issues' in contemporary psychology as well as studying pioneering approaches and major thinkers. The specialist counselling modules allow you an added perspective and teaches you how to apply basic skills from the counselling room in real-world settings.

Choose modules in your second and final year that suit your particular interests, including mental health and illness, addiction and clinical neuropsychology.

Career ready

Sunderland has a good reputation with employers - 93.4% of our graduates are in employment, further study or training within six months of graduating, according to DLHE 2016/17 (based on full-time, first degree, home leavers).
Graduates from this course have gone onto further training and study in areas such as Occupational Therapy, Teacher Training, Social Work and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). Some graduates have also gone to work in fields such as addiction and mental health.

General requirements

The typical offer is 104-120 UCAS Tariff points, from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A Levels, T Levels, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate. T Levels must be in a related subject.
You also need three passes at GCSE grade C or above. This must include maths and English language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. If you've studied for a GCSE that has a numerical grade, you'll need to achieve a grade 4 or above.
