Overview
Aligned with the NHS 10 Year Plan and wider healthcare priorities, the Primary, Community and Social Care Nursing (Mental Health) (Hons) course at University of Huddersfield reflects the growing need for mental health services that focus on prevention, early intervention, recovery and delivering care closer to home.
If you're compassionate, curious and motivated to make a difference to people's lives, this course will help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to support individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health needs. You'll learn how to work collaboratively with people, families, carers and other professionals, helping individuals make sense of their experiences and supporting their recovery, wellbeing and independence.
Your Career
After graduating from this course as a Registered Nurse, you'll be prepared for careers across primary care, community and social care settings, supporting people experiencing mental ill health and promoting recovery, wellbeing and independence. These may include community mental health teams, crisis and home treatment services, rehabilitation services, primary care settings and wider community-based mental health services.
Mental health nurses work in a diverse range of settings and can build rewarding careers across health, social care and specialist services. You may go on to work within local healthcare trusts, private hospitals and specialist services, including child and adolescent mental health services, forensic settings, substance misuse services, accident and emergency liaison teams, youth offending services and the criminal justice system.
Following qualification, there are also opportunities to develop specialist expertise or progress into advanced, leadership and consultancy roles.
