Practical Filmmaking (Hons) Central Film School

Overview

The Practical Filmmaking (Hons) course at Central Film School is an immersive, hands-on programme designed to develop your craft as a filmmaker while preparing you for the realities of working in the screen industries. From day one, you’ll learn by doing — gaining practical experience across key roles such as directing, producing, cinematography, editing, and sound, while collaborating with writers, actors, and fellow filmmakers.

Progression

Based on the specialisations chosen during their studies, graduates of the BA Practical Filmmaking programme are well-prepared to enter a variety of creative roles across the screen industries. Many go on to build careers as directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, or sound designers, while others find opportunities in production management and visual effects.

The course also equips students with transferable skills that can be applied to related areas such as advertising, branded content, online media, and interactive storytelling.

With a strong foundation in collaboration, technical craft, and creative problem-solving, graduates are ready to contribute to the rapidly evolving film, television, and digital media sectors, or to progress to postgraduate study for further specialisation.
