Overview

The additional fourth year of this integrated master’s in Physical Oceanography offered by Bangor University allows you to graduate with a master’s-level qualification. Focusing on the study of the physics of the ocean and the processes which link it to the atmosphere and the cryosphere, the extended research project is designed to boost your future employability.

They place a particular emphasis on developing knowledge and skills, including field, lab and computer-based techniques, of direct relevance to industry, particularly in relation to issues such as future climate change, sea level rise, marine pollution and exploitation of marine renewable energy.

Careers

The MSci Physical Oceanography provides an ideal preparation for careers in climate change research, marine renewable exploitation, and the offshore industry, environmental impact assessment, the water supply industry, coastal zone management as well as government advisory bodies and the scientific media.

You’ll graduate with a range of transferrable skills, including analytical problem solving, data collection and analysis, teamwork, organising and communicating information.

The graduates go on to be leaders in both the offshore industry and academia. They gain employment in the marine sector in civil or coastal engineering and consultancy or environmental consultancy, for example. They work with government laboratories and agencies, such as the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Environment Agency and the Natural Environmental Research Council.
