Creative Writing (Hons) Bangor University

Overview

The  Creative Writing (Hons) programme offered by Bangor University offers an exciting range of modules, focusing on novels, short fiction, creative non-fiction, flash fiction, hybrid forms, podcasting and poetry, writing for stage and screen, as well as the challenge of working with AI in professional and creative contexts. You will also develop knowledge of the publishing industry and of the ways in which texts are produced, marketed and distributed. 

Visiting guest writers help inspire creativity which in the past have included hosts readings and discussion from award-winning novelists and poets. Catrin Kean, poet Bhanu Kapil, and short fiction author Wendy Erskine are just some of the writers to pay us a visit at Bangor University. 

From the outset, on the Creative Writing degree, you will be encouraged to build your professional network and play an active role in our creative community. This enables you to draw inspiration and learn lessons from both past and current established practitioners.

There are lots of opportunities to extend your creativity outside of the classroom. This includes student-run readings and discussion groups. Bangor’s vibrant local arts and culture scene includes a local theatre, cinema and there are poetry groups who host events across the city.

Careers

You will graduate from our BA Creative Writing degree as a highly skilled creative practitioner. You will be able to write and communicate effectively to different audiences, building a portfolio of work in a variety of forms and genres that documents your evolving creative skills, talent, and identity as a writer.

The graduates go on to enter a range of careers, often in the creative and cultural industries, the arts, and digital communications sectors. They find roles as writers in various fields including editing, journalism, marketing and communications.

As an expert creator, communicator and critical thinker, you will be in possession of some of the most in-demand skills required by the modern job market. These transferrable skills can be adapted to administrative, management and leadership roles across a broad range of professions, from teaching, legal services, heritage and hospitality to the civil service, private sectors and the third sector.
