Overview
At Bangor University , they bring the study of law to life. Take part in mock trials, internal moots in English and Welsh, visit law firms, judicial institutions, and government institutions.
You'll also have the chance to hear from practising lawyers, legal experts, and specialist law firms. Extra-curricular activities from our active student-run Law Society include the popular ‘LawSoc balls’ and trips to law fairs.
On this Law with Cymraeg (Welsh) (Hons) degree, you’ll gain the legal and language skills required in a bilingual legal profession. Since devolution in 1998, there has been a growing demand for bilingual lawyers and those with legal knowledge – in both the public and private arenas. Not just to aid treatment of victims and defendants in court, but also help Welsh citizens understand their legal rights and obligations.
Careers
Many statutory bodies such as the Welsh Language Commissioner and the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales and the Children’s Commissioner for Wales require people with legal backgrounds to work as policy officers, campaigners and advice workers.
Whether you decide to become a lawyer or not, the skills and knowledge you gain on this degree will prepare you to act as an agent of change through policy, governance, justice, research and/or action. You’ll be equipped with solid analytical, problem-solving, reasoning and critical judgment skills.
While the degrees meet the Bar Standards Board's requirements for barristers and provide essential knowledge for qualification as solicitors, introducing students to material tested on the Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam (SQE), they also open doors to a wide range of other career paths. A law degree from Bangor is a versatile and valuable asset, and we can support you in exploring the many opportunities it can offer.
Outside the many legal professions, you could find roles advertising, marketing, journalism, management and administration, the museums and heritage sector, commerce and banking, teaching and research.
After graduation, some of our Bangor graduates have undertaken training contracts at various law firms, from international law firms based in the City of London to regional and local firms or pursued a career at the Bar.
