Film and Drama (Hons) Bangor University

Overview

Develop your critical and theoretical understanding of film and drama whilst improving your professional practice. Learn skills in filmmaking, improve your acting skills and rehears and perform with fellow drama students whilst learning about the cultural and historical impact of film and drama. 

You will learn about the film industry, film history and theory, as well as filmmaking techniques. You can also explore digital media, television, radio, music videos, podcasting and social media.

You’ll join a friendly, dynamic and creative community on this Film and Drama degree. There are lots of opportunities to gain practical experience helping organising screenings, film festivals and special events at Pontio or via Bangor Film Society. You can also collaborate on different projects, such as short films, with students who are film makers, actors, composers and writers.

You'll learn by doing with access to industry-standard digital media equipment and creative spaces that bring ideas to life. The Arts and Innovation centre, Pontio, hosts our annual media showcase and its cinema runs a range of industry events by the likes of the British Film Institute and Film Wales Network.

Careers

Studying Film and Drama (Hons) at Bangor University can be your launchpad to a great career across the creative and cultural industries. They have excellent links with theatre companies, newspapers and the television industry.

The Film graduates work in the development and production of feature films and television, with credits like HBO (Watchmen Series), Doctor Dolittle, BBC, SKY, ITV, S4C, Channel 4 and international independent productions. Their work has been recognised by awards from BAFTA and the Royal Television Society and has screened at world-class festivals, secured development from the BFI and BAFTA.

Drama graduates have gone on to work in a range of roles, including presenting, production, performance and the theatre (both on and behind the stage), creative writing, professional writing and publishing, print and/or broadcast journalism.

A key advantage of this joint degree, is that it also equips you with valuable transferrable skills that can be adapted to a wide range of administrative, management and leadership roles. Critical and creative thinking, communication, interpretation and research, among them. Being part of a crew organising film screenings and or theatrical productions also demonstrates your organisation and teamworking skills.

Some of the students choose to become teachers at all educational levels or have taken up administrative posts with orchestras, theatre companies, opera houses or arts centres. Others seek further training as arts therapists or embark on postgraduate study and training in Film and related disciplines, to train as researchers and lecturers in higher education.
