Overview

Industrial design is a field that focuses on art, design and user’s touch in the process of engineering and manufacturing. It is a process of designing new products that derives from creative problem solving and adding technology discoveries to make the product more appealing, functioning better, ease its use and improving the environment and ecosystem quality.

The Industrial Design Department

The Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Design & Architecture, University Putra Malaysia was established in 2002 and the first student intake of the Industrial Design (Hons) bachelor program was at the First Semester of 2002/2003 session. To date, the program has produced about 370 professional graduates who, particularly, meet the needs of national talent in the field of Industrial Design and, generally, as an important manpower that supports manufacturing industry.

Graduates from this department are mostly employed in public and private sectors with various specializations, such as skilled manpower especially on concept design, technical and computer aided design (CAD) work, design advisers, design management and consultancy, design research and development, business and entrepreneurship, education and more.

General requirements

STPM / Matriculation / Foundation / Diploma / equivalent qualification recognised by UPM Senate
Minimum Grade B- (CGPA ~2.67) in at least one subject (excluding General Studies for STPM)
MUET Band 2.0 (latest system) / Band 2 (older system)
Must pass interview conducted by Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Design and Architecture (UPM)
Portfolio may be required / advantage for selection (design-based evaluation)
Priority given to candidates with Visual Arts / Art / Design / Reka Cipta background (SPM or STPM level)
Subject to seat availability and competitive selection
