Overview
The BSc (Hons) Sport and Rehabilitation Therapy degree is a great choice if you want to focus on musculoskeletal rehab in sport, exercise, and fitness.
Key facts
Sport rehabilitators and therapists help athletes and patients recover from musculoskeletal issues, ranging from short-term sports injuries to long-term conditions. As a graduate sport rehabilitator, you’ll be an autonomous healthcare practitioner, playing a vital role in promoting health, restoring movement, and supporting people back to work or sport. You’ll learn hands-on techniques to treat pain, prevent injury, and creative effective rehab plans. To gain accreditation from the British Association of Sport Rehabilitation and Therapy (BASRaT), you’ll study specialised therapy modules alongside sports science, physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, psychology, anatomy, and pathophysiology. You’ll also complete at least 400 hours of hands-on experience through work placements with hospital trusts, GPs, sports clubs, private gyms, or sports therapists in the region – an essential part of the course. You may also have the chance to earn extra vocational qualifications – like Personal Trainer Awards or Massage – through student societies and industry-recognised bodies (additional fees apply). The University also fully funds an Advanced Trauma Care course, which is required for BASRaT accreditation. As a graduate, you’ll work in a variety of settings, often alongside physiotherapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. Career paths include roles in sports clubs, private clinics, GP practices, physiotherapy support, or even running your own business.
