Overview

The programme equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to understand the complex interactions between human activity and the natural environment, and to address challenges related to environmental protection and sustainability. Drawing on disciplines such as biology, chemistry and Earth sciences, students develop a systems-oriented way of thinking that enables them to analyse environmental problems holistically and contribute creatively to their solutions. The programme also provides an excellent foundation for further studies at Master’s level.

Graduates are prepared for independent professional work primarily in institutions and administrative bodies responsible for environmental protection, as well as in biological, toxicological, chemical analytical and atmospheric chemistry research. Thanks to the programme’s strong scientific basis, students gain a broad and versatile background that allows them to continue their studies successfully in a wide range of science- or engineering-related Master’s programmes, both in Hungary and internationally.

Programme Structure

The basic modules of the curriculum, in accordance with the academic and learning outcome requirements, are outlined below.

1. Fundamental science and informatics courses — 33 credits Mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics

2. Environmental science core courses — 69 creditsA. General environmental science module — 30 credits Environmental studies, ecology, botany, zoology, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, atmospheric science, mineralogy, geology, soil science, environmental chemistry, geoinformatics, radiation science, water chemistry

B. Environmental nature protection module — 18 credits Environmental sociology, environmental law, environmental
