At the heart of this Midwifery programme from University of Cumbria is a team of passionate lecturers who bring invaluable clinical experience to their teaching. Committed to your success, they provide excellent pastoral support to ensure you maximise your potential during your degree. Theoretical teaching is based on the latest evidence and research, using modern teaching methods and technology to create a vibrant and engaging learning experience.The midwifery profession is brought to life on our campus with our clinical skills and simulation facilities. You will work in simulated ward areas, our midwifery birthing suite and cutting-edge immersive simulation room, which offer safe and supportive environments for you to develop your skills and confidence under the guidance of our experienced academic team.
A hallmark of our Midwifery degree is the emphasis on practical experience. You will spend half of your course – equivalent to 2,300 hours – engaged in real-world practice in a range of settings, including in the community and hospital.

- Benefit from exciting, diverse placements providing you with experience of a variety of healthcare systems across inner-city and rural areas, widening your midwifery experience and learning.
- Apply midwifery theory to real-life midwifery care in practice, so that you are confident and competent in supporting women, birthing people and their families through pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.
- Become eligible to register as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You'll be recognised as a safe and competent midwife ready for employment.

General requirements
- GCSEs: GCSE English Language, Maths and Biology (or Combined Science) at C/4 or above.
- A-levels: BBC-ABB preferably to include Biology or PE grade B (40 points)
- T-levels: M. All T-levels are accepted however Healthcare Science and Health are recommended.
- Access to HE: 30 Credits at Distinction and 15 at Merit to include preferably with 21 credits in Biology or Human Physiology.
- CACHE Technical Level 3 and Level 3 Extended Diploma: B preferably to include Human Growth and Development and Anatomy and Physiology.
- OCR Cambridge Technical & Edexcel/Pearson BTEC Level 3 (National) Extended Diploma: DDM units in Sexual Health; Reproduction and Early Development Stages preferred.
- Scottish Highers: BBBB-AAAB to preferable include A in Biology.
- Irish LC Highers: A2x3, B2 – A1, A2x 3 preferable to include A2 in Biology.
