Overview

History has been taught at Bangor University since it was established in 1884. We have an excellent reputation for teaching and research in medieval and early modern history, strengths encompass the Normans and Anglo-Normans; Welsh princes, Tudors, and Stuarts. Our expertise in modern and contemporary history includes nationalism, the labour movement, consumerism, protest, government policy, country houses and estates, gender and colonialism.

Careers

The History (Hons) course at Bangor University equips you with the insights and skills to make a significant contribution to future society.

Your experience and ability to investigate and solve problems, formulate and present logical and structured arguments, can be adapted to administrative, management and leadership roles within a broad range of professions. These range from banking and the financial services to education, research, media and creative industries, legal services, heritage and hospitality, civil service, private sectors and the third sector.

Recent employers of our graduates include BBC Wales, political parties including Plaid Cymru, Gwynedd Archaeological Trust, English Heritage, and The National Trust. Many also choose to undertake further postgraduate study, including master's and PhD degrees, teaching or law conversion courses.

A Levels: History or Archaeology preferred but not required. General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted.

BTEC National Extended Diploma: DMM - DDM

Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma: DMM- DDM

City & Guilds Advanced Technical Extended Diploma (1080): considered on a case-by-case basis

International Baccalaureate Diploma: accepted

Access: pass required
