Overview
The Associate of Business Administration in Accountancy course at University of Wollongong has been granted the maximum exemption of 5 modules by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), making it a strategic choice for students aiming to pursue professional qualifications. The curriculum equips students with accountancy knowledge, general education, and people skills, enabling smooth articulation into local and international degree programmes and diverse career paths in accounting and business. To enhance students’ practical skills, MYOB—one of the most commonly used accounting software in Hong Kong SMEs and the designated software for LCCI examinations—is adopted as the training platform. With partial exemptions from professional bodies and hands-on training, ABAA offers a comprehensive and career-oriented pathway for aspiring accountants.
Career opportunities
In addition to further studies, graduates of ABAA can choose to start their career and gain experience in different sectors. One of the classic paths is to join an audit firm. You can accumulate experience in different areas of the accounting industry, such as audit, tax, financial reporting, etc. You can also work in the commercial sector and join the accounting and finance department of a company. SMEs as well as MNCs need financially capable employees to not only fulfil the annual reporting requirements but also involve in financial analysis, financial management and management accounting (e.g. budgeting) to help bringing the company to another level and sustain in this ever-changing world. The government department famous for recruiting accounting talents is the Inland Revenue Department.
