Overview
The Teaching English as a Second Language course from Douglas College courses are offered in a hybrid format, meaning some are online and some are in person, giving you more flexibility with your education.
You’ll gain theoretical and practical knowledge including designing tutorials, delivering courses and managing a classroom. You’ll also learn how to tutor English to adult speakers of other languages, a course that is unique in B.C. to Douglas College’s TESL programme. With the programme’s 25-hour teaching and tutoring practicum, you’ll graduate with experience in the field.

General requirements
All applicants for admission to the College must satisfy at least ONE of the following criteria:
- British Columbia secondary school graduation or equivalent;
- One course short of British Columbia secondary school graduation, or equivalent;
- Nineteen (19) years of age or older by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance;
- Seventeen (17) years of age on the first day of the first semester of attendance, and has not been enrolled at a school for a minimum of one year;
- Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs programme and has been in school for 12 years, or has received an Evergreen or Leaving School Certificate
