Overview
The primary aim of the Bachelor of Paramedicine - Canadian applicants programme from Charles Sturt University is to develop reflective practitioners who can analyse often complex problems and implement a plan of action that is clinically, ethically and logistically sound. The coursework aims to develop a sound knowledge base in order to support the clinical decision making process. Students learn about the paramedic treatment of common illnesses and disease across the life span and to function clinically to an advanced life support level.
Further, students will be introduced to issues related to law and ethics, the emergency care of the mentally ill patient in the out-of-hospital environment and health, society and paramedical practice. Students are encouraged to identify wherever possible sources of information that represent the best available evidence, in order to deliver the highest possible levels of patient care. Students will also be expected to look beyond the discipline of paramedic care to appreciate their role within the broader context of health. The course aims to enable students to demonstrate positive, caring attitudes towards clients and the members of the community, and to operate as an effective member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
Career opportunities
- When you graduate, you'll be ready to make your mark in a wide range of emergency, ambulance and out-of-hospital health care environments as a registered paramedic.
