Overview
Dalhousie University 's Stage Design and Technical Theatre programme is designed for students wishing to pursue careers in stage design and technical theatre. This theatre discipline encompasses all areas of specialization that work together in the production of live performances. Set design, scenic carpentry, scenic painting, lighting, sound, props, and stage management are taught through lectures and hands-on labs.
Our programme combines theory and aesthetics with practical skills and hands-on learning. You’ll benefit from small class sizes and individual mentoring that comes from our Fountain School student-to-instructor ratio which is low compared to similar other programmes.
What you will learn
- This is a 4-year Bachelor of Arts degree that combines both practical and academic study. Students are exposed to all aspects of technical theatre including set and prop construction, lighting and sound design, stage management, and set design.
- Our students get a seat at the production table, working alongside fellow students, faculty, guest artists, playwrights and directors. You’ll help build stage productions from the ground up.
- With a passion for stage design and scenography, the Fountain School of Performing Arts can give you what you need to get started in your chosen career.
