Dalhousie University 's Acting programme is focused on students who have decided to pursue a career as performers in professional theatre. This dynamic and intensive professional actor training programme is progressive, culminating in a company of student actors who perform in three theatrical productions in the Fountain School season in their fourth year.

What you will learn

Each year of the programme has a specific purpose. The first year is designed to orient students, and the second introduces students to fundamental principles.

Students then learn how to integrate what they have discovered as they gain further understanding of techniques and creative expression. In the final year, studies are geared toward performance and entering the world of professional acting.

Third-year students perform in one show of the Fountain School season and may be invited to perform in others. The company of fourth-year Acting programme students will be cast in three Fountain School season shows.

Graduates of Dal’s Acting programme have gone on to perform on both the stage and screen, having gained the versatility necessary to apply themselves to a wide range of roles and environments, as well as the skills to navigate various industries.

Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)

Achievement of the minimum average for your programme of choice.
