Overview
Industrial engineers optimize processes and systems by finding ways to save time, money, energy, and materials, while enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and safety.
Industrial engineering is at the heart of society’s essential systems. From hospitals to airlines, manufacturers to telecommunication companies, industrial engineers design solutions to improve the performance of complex systems of people, technology and information.
Programme options
Undergraduate students have the option of following a co-op programme (five years) or a non-co-op programme (four years).
The following Industrial Engineering Programme option is offered by Dalhousie University ’s Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Agriculture. Connect with an academic advisor after you start your studies to explore options.
- Bachelor of Engineering (for degrees only)
What you will learn
In the first two years of their degree, all engineering students complete the core engineering programme. You can take this programme either on the Sexton Campus in Halifax, or the Agricultural Campus in Truro. You will study math, science, engineering science, and design, developing a broad foundation in engineering.
At the end of your first year, you can apply to enter Industrial Engineering. In Dalhousie University's Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering programme, you’ll learn how to review workflows, analyze data, and learn mathematical models to create effective processes.
Job opportunities for industrial engineers are both plentiful and widely based. Former graduates are currently practicing industrial engineering in areas ranging from semi-conductor manufacturing and airlines to utilities and hospitals.
