Overview
The Professional Policing (Accelerated Pre Join) (Hons) offered by Liverpool John Moores University has been licensed by the College of Policing, the professional Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) for policing. Since 2020, there are three entry routes into policing - this degree in Professional Policing is the requisite qualification for one of those routes.
The programme will start in September with semesters in the Autumn, Spring and Summer. Lectures and seminars during the Autumn and Spring semesters will be delivered on the Mount Pleasant Campus, while the summer semester will be delivered in an online, distance learning format.
This accelerated degree programme is delivered in Autumn, Spring and Summer semesters and will equip graduates with the required level of professional knowledge and understanding to begin their policing career. It will also put policing in the wider context of society.
In addition to lectures, workshops and seminars there will be realistic simulated exercises and role- plays. The programme is delivered by academic staff and practitioner academics. These Practitioner Academics are academically qualified, former practitioners of all ranks and roles. All staff are experienced in a wide range of subject areas and specialisms.
Throughout the programme there is a mentoring scheme that supports students in their academic, professional and personal development.
Employability
On completion of this two-year accelerated degree programme, you will be eligible to apply within five years to police constabularies for appointment as police constables.
Achieving this degree is a requirement but does not guarantee appointment to a police force. Recruitment and appointment is subject to the relevant regulations and requirements of police recruitment and selection processes. This includes medical and fitness testing along with background and security checks. Recruitment and selection processes are rigorous and may vary between forces.
