The university provides the students with exceptional support, specialist subject expertise and a network of over 400 schools for first-rate placement opportunities that lead to high graduate employment rates. A large proportion of our partner schools are graded Ofsted ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ – so you’ll work alongside teachers of exceptionally high standards.
You’ll learn through lectures and smaller-group workshops and seminars – while gaining experience on school placements. From city to village schools or early years settings, you’ll experience a range of classroom environments over a minimum of 120 days. You’ll put theory into practice on blocks of placement weeks throughout the three years of the course. Lectures focus on developing your subject knowledge and pedagogy, and are carefully structured around your increasing understanding of practice from placement experiences. The emphasis on professionalism throughout the course prepares you to become an excellent teacher.
You’ll also develop skills by undertaking collaborative, specialist teaching and exploring creative lesson planning and delivery. Our education community includes a network of school teachers and personnel, and you’ll benefit from a university-based Personal Tutor and a school-based Placement mentor. We work closely with our partner schools, where our students often gain their first teaching posts, and our mentors provide excellent guidance.
