Overview
Overview
The field of user experience (UX) is focused on human-computer interaction. You’ll study of how people interact with technologies, the design of technology and the Internet of Things (IoT). It examines how we might ensure that information technology is usable, useful and satisfying to engage with.
During the Design - User Experience Design program at University of Melbourne you’ll have a special focus on digital material such as web-based media, mobile media and interactive technologies.
Your classes will be about the fundamentals of digital technology – including algorithms, data-orientation and practical web-based techniques – so you can develop an understanding of how we apply digital tech in a range of areas or industries. You could complete a double major to combine your tech skills to another industry or interest.
In the first year of the Bachelor of Design, you will be immersed in a world of design and discovering new concepts and skills. You might be performing on a stage, writing code in a computer lab, contemplating design theory and putting it in to practice, or making 3D models. The subjects you complete in your first year provide the basis for your knowledge of design that will carry through for the rest of your degree.
By your second year you will deepen your understanding of your chosen design disciplines and be able to finalise your selection of majors, minors and specialisations.
In third year, you’ll complete your major requirements in user experience design. You’ll also be required to take a capstone subject. When you’ve finished your major, you’ll be able to incorporate UX principles and digital technology to problem-solving, using your visual communication techniques and practical skills in almost any industry.
