Overview

Bioengineering; It is a field that encompasses the combined application of engineering disciplines, life sciences and medical knowledge. Many applications are included in this field, such as biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, drug delivery systems and high-throughput screening devices for drug discovery, imaging, monitoring and diagnostic devices and biosensors.

Overview

Gebze Technological University's Bioengineering Department , which started its operations in 2009  , operates on a scientific research basis and has started active undergraduate education since the fall semester of 2017. "Bioinformatics and Systems Biology" Master's program was opened in February 2016, and the PhD program was opened in February 2018. Additionally, there are Bioengineering Master's and Doctorate programs in our department as of 2022.

The main aim of our department is to produce solutions to biological problems from an engineering perspective. The research we conducted in this direction

• elucidating the working principles of the cell and disease mechanisms with a systems biology approach using bioinformatics-based computational methods,

• producing active substances with antimicrobial effects and active products used in cancer treatment using genetically modified microorganisms with engineering methods, 

• developing biocompatible products with biomaterial and tissue engineering approaches, 

• electrical It is carried out in five main directions : designing biomedical materials using electronic and mechanical engineering methods,
