Overview

This Design Formation program from Langara College is ideal for creative people of all ages and backgrounds, from recent high-school graduates to mature students wishing to update their credentials. The classroom and workshop are close-knit, intimate, and collaborative. Our faculty, who are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable about the design world at large support this community feeling.

We aim to promote a comprehensive understanding of the design process and expose students to various aspects of the field. This allows graduates to explore their own creative paths with a broad set of skills and experience. Please see the Program Curriculum for a detailed look at our course offerings.

Students graduate with a diploma and a professional exit portfolio. Equipped with a wide range of practical skills and knowledge, students can choose to enter the workforce at an entry-level position or continue with further studies in Design.

Career Opportunities

Upon graduation, students will exit with a high degree of proficiency and a portfolio showcasing their knowledge and skills. This foundation can lead to opportunities within two different paths:

Work within the industry, through careers in Retail Visual Merchandising, Graphic Design, Interiors Services, Exhibit Design, or specializing to seek further education in fields such as Marketing & Advertising, Illustration, Architecture, and Digital, Graphic, Industrial or Interior Design streams.

Applicants are required to have an interview with a program faculty member, at which time the applicant will demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively verbally, visually, and in writing to demonstrate the depth of their knowledge by completing an assessment and presenting a portfolio of relevant work.
